Frequently Asked Questions - Balanced Calendar

What is a balanced calendar?

Balanced Calendar Schools reorganize the school year to provide more continuous learning.  Instead of having the long summer break where students lose their learning, the breaks will be divided throughout the school year.  At the end of each instructional marking period, there will be a break.  During that break, students and staff can participate in Camp Weeks, which will provide offer fun and enrichment through exciting programs.

Will my child in the balanced calendar school receive the same instruction and programs as other schools?

Yes!! Students attending the balanced calendar school go to the same classes and receive the same instruction as student on a traditional calendar.  The balanced calendar is organized into instructional periods and vacation weeks that are more evenly balanced across 12 months than the traditional school calendar.  The balanced calendar minimizes the learning loss that occurs during a typical three-month summer vacation.  The difference in our program will be to offer the students exciting learning opportunities during our Camp Weeks.

What is a Camp Week?

Camp Weeks are the periods of time rescheduled from summer vacation and redistributed within the school year.  These weeks can be used as vacation, however themed Camp Weeks programs will provide families that need year round care for their children an opportunity to participate in fun and interesting programs like Computer Camp, Music, Art, Dance, Science.  The possibilities are endless. Camp Weeks involve school staff and community resources to provide a safety net and an academic boost.
